About This Calculator
This free online calculator handles both everyday arithmetic and common scientific functions, making it suitable for students, professionals, and anyone who needs quick, reliable calculations without installing software. It runs entirely in your browser — no downloads, no accounts, and instant results.
Supported Operations
- Basic arithmetic: Addition (+), subtraction (−), multiplication (×), division (÷)
- Trigonometry: sin, cos, tan — standard functions for angle calculations (in radians)
- Exponents: Use the ^ button for powers (e.g., 2^8 = 256)
- Logarithm: Natural logarithm (ln) of any positive number
- Pi (π): Inserts the value 3.14159265... for use in circle and trigonometry calculations
- Calculation history: Your recent calculations are saved in the session for easy reference
Keyboard Shortcuts
You can type directly into the calculator using your keyboard for faster input:
- Number keys (0–9) and operators (+, −, *, /): Append to the display
- Enter: Calculate the result (same as pressing =)
- Escape or C: Clear the display (same as AC)
- Decimal point (.): Enter decimal numbers
- Parentheses ( ): Group operations and control evaluation order
Order of Operations (PEMDAS / BODMAS)
This calculator evaluates expressions using the standard mathematical order of operations:
- Parentheses / Brackets — evaluated first
- Exponents / Orders (powers and roots) — evaluated second
- Multiplication and Division — left to right
- Addition and Subtraction — left to right
For example: 2 + 3 × 4 = 14 (not 20), because multiplication is evaluated before addition. To force
a different order, use parentheses: (2 + 3) × 4 = 20.
When to Use This vs the Scientific Calculator
This calculator is ideal for quick everyday calculations — arithmetic, basic trig, and exponents. If you need more advanced functions such as inverse trig (arcsin, arccos), hyperbolic functions, factorial (!), combinations, permutations, or statistical operations, use our Scientific Calculator. For visualizing functions and plotting graphs, try our Graphing Calculator.
