Shoe Size Calculator
Convert shoe sizes between international standards or find your size from foot measurements.
How to Measure Your Foot
- Place a piece of paper on a hard floor against a wall
- Stand on the paper with your heel against the wall
- Mark the tip of your longest toe
- Measure from the wall to the mark
- Measure both feet - use the larger measurement
Understanding International Shoe Sizing Systems
Shoe sizing is notoriously inconsistent across the world. There is no single international standard — each major market uses its own scale, and even within a system, sizes can vary by brand, shoe type, and intended use. This calculator converts between the five most common systems: US, UK, EU (European/mondopoint), Japan, and China.
Why Shoe Sizes Vary So Much by Country
- US sizing is based on the barleycorn (⅓ inch), and men's and women's sizes start at different points — a men's 9 is equivalent to a women's 11
- UK sizing also uses barleycorns and runs 1.5 sizes smaller than US men's (UK 8 = US 9)
- EU sizing is based on Paris points (⅔ cm) and is the most widely used international reference system. EU 43 ≈ US 9.5 for men
- Japanese sizing is based on foot length in centimeters — the most intuitive system. JP 27 = 27 cm foot length
- Chinese sizing is similar to EU but uses millimeters based on foot length
How to Measure Your Foot Correctly
For the most accurate size: measure at the end of the day (feet swell during the day), stand upright (feet flatten under body weight), measure both feet and use the larger measurement, and measure in socks if you typically wear them. Use a ruler against a wall — place your heel against the wall and mark the tip of your longest toe.
Size Variations by Brand
Even within the same sizing system, brands run differently. Nike tends to run narrow and slightly small; New Balance runs wide; Adidas and Puma are roughly true to size; luxury brands like Gucci and Prada often run half a size small. Always check brand-specific fit guides when ordering online, especially for international purchases.
Shoe Width Guide
In the US system, width is denoted by letters: AA/2A (Extra Narrow), B (Narrow for women, standard for some brands), D (Standard/Medium for men, Wide for women), E/2E (Wide for men), 4E (Extra Wide). Most mass-market shoes are made in "medium" width. If standard shoes feel tight across the ball of the foot, consider a wide-width option before sizing up in length.
